🌄 Day 1: Lalibela Rock-Hewn Churches & Town Experience

Start with breakfast at your hotel or FikirandRay Lodge, then head to the Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela with a local guide. Explore major churches including Bete Medhane Alem and Bete Maryam, moving through tunnels, trenches, and sacred passageways while learning the history of King Lalibela’s “New Jerusalem.”
🍲 Afternoon
Break for lunch in town or at your lodge, then continue visiting smaller interconnected churches and hidden chambers within the complex. End the afternoon at the iconic Bete Giyorgis (Church of St. George) for photography and reflection.
🌇 Evening
Return to your lodge, relax, and optionally enjoy a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony or sunset view over the highlands.
⛰️ Day 2: Countryside Culture – Yemrehana & Asheten

After breakfast, drive through scenic mountain roads to Yemrehana Krestos Church, a 12th-century cave church built inside a natural limestone cave. Explore its Axumite-style architecture, ancient wooden beams, religious paintings, and sacred burial areas with your guide explaining its early Christian significance.

Enjoy a simple picnic or village lunch in the countryside, surrounded by highland scenery and rural Ethiopian life.
🚶 Afternoon
Continue to Asheton Maryam Monastery. Depending on preference, hike or take a mule up the mountain. At the top, visit the monastery, meet resident monks, and explore rock-carved chapels while enjoying panoramic views over Lalibela and the surrounding highlands.

Return to Lalibela town, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening. Rest at your lodge or hotel after a full cultural and scenic experience.
